I came across Shahnaz on Twitter and was excited to realise that she designs and makes vegan clothes. I knew you'd want to know about her business, Edelji, so I asked her to tell you all about her journey and here it is!
Edelji is a small company that I have started up. It's just me at the moment designing and making everything. I sell worldwide on etsy but I will have my own website in a few months. I am based in England and I only use synthetic materials, cotton, and incorporate recycled bottle caps from pubs and bars.
Ever since I was little I have been making clothing and I have a degree in fashion, which means I can make things to a very high standard, unlike when I was little!
I was 3 when I turned vegetarian after watching an episode of Beatrix potter where poor Peter rabbit was going to be put into a pie by the farmer Mr Mcgreggor! As soon as the episode finished my mum explained where meat came from and I never ate it again. We all know right from wrong, even at an early age, but as we get older I think people get better at denying their conscience or even switching it off, just to indulge themselves!
Veganism came later for me, but I have been vegan for 2 years now. I started following a vegan diet after finding out how cruel the dairy industry is!
I hope to launch my own website and maybe going into bridal wear as I have just started a bridesmaid line.
