BOXPARK Shoreditch
What on earth is Boxpark?
Boxpark in Shoreditch opened in 2011. It was the world's first pop-up mall. The creation was a way to sell modern street food, whilst giving local and global brands the space to display their goods! Unlike other malls, where only known brands get a place, Boxpark allows known and unknown brands to be side by side.
How is each business 'separated?
Amazingly, each area is made from refitted shipping containers. What a great way to reduce, re-use and recycle!
An opportunity to succeed when rent and leases are unaffordable elsewhere
Boxpark offers affordable leases that are flexible and don't tie lessees into long contracts. This can be the help they need to get their foot in the door, trial their products and see what their audience thinks of it.
Food
Boxpark hosts a number of places to grab a bite, and when I went, a lot of them were fully vegan! I wished there were more of us so that we could have bought and shared more than the two of us could manage between us.
This is what we ate. The photos aren't that great, but they don't reflect how well they tasted.
The second Boxpark
Boxpark Croydon was launched in October 2016. This one sound more up my street, as these businesses are completely focused on food and drink.
Beyond food
Boxpark also hosts events. I love that their aim is to bring as much fresh talent to Boxpark as possible. Some of those who have showcased their talent since Boxpark opened include, DJ’s, singers, musicians and spoken word performers.
Would I return to Boxpark?
I definitely would! Here's why...
- I love supporting small businesses
- I am inspired by funky, creative, unique places like Boxpark
- I want to try the many options of vegan food that they have
