Vitamin K is needed to help the blood clot. This is important when we are wounded, as it will assist healing.
Where can we get Vitamin K from?
Vitamin K can be found in cereal grains, and green leafy vegetables, such as, broccoli, spinach, kale, parsley, brussels sprouts, romaine, and green leaf lettuce.
How much Vitamin K do we need?
Adults need 0.001mg per day, for each kilogram of their body weight. Thus someone who weighs 70kg would need 0.070mg of Vitamin K per a day.
What happens if we consume too much Vitamin K?
Excess Vitamin K, or that which isn’t needed, is stored in the liver for future use.
What does the Department of Health have to say about Vitamin K?
“You should be able to get all the vitamin K you need by eating a varied and balanced diet. If you take vitamin K supplements, don't take too much, because this might be harmful. Taking 1mg or less of vitamin K supplements a day is unlikely to cause any harm.”
