I came across, this fully plant-based business when I was reading some Tweets. I checked out the site and was impressed by the minimalism of it. MuLondon have less but it doesn't mean less!
Boris, believes in, for example, having one cream that can be used on the lips, knees, elbows and heels. Why have multiple products for different parts of the body? His regular moisturisers are great for the face, hands and even as a hair pomade, and the cleansers double up as a shaving foam too!
To me, this shows that he doesn't define his success by cashing in if the item allows for minimalism, he's not into fitting in with the 'norm' for the sake of it, and he's confident about his products.
So this post tells you all about MuLondon. Over to Boris, who founded this company.
What does MuLondon specialise in selling?
Hi Heena! MuLondon is an all-vegan, award-winning cruelty-free skincare brand. I make fabulously rich, healing skin potions from certified organic ingredients, ideal for dry & sensitive skin types.
Where are you based?
As the name may suggest, MuLondon is based in one of the most amazing cities on earth - London, UK!
Do you exclusively serve those who are local to you or can others who are further away access your products too? If so, how?
MuLondon has a global following, as customers from anywhere in the world can place orders through my website. I offer very affordable worldwide shipping, and have posted to places such as Japan, Palestine, Brazil, Norway and Russia.
What inspired you to create a business that solely focuses on plant-based treats and saviours for the body?
I've always been passionate about the natural & organic lifestyle. Having been vegetarian and then vegan for many years, it was a no-brainer for me to try to find a more natural and compassionate solution to dry skin. I love creating stuff that contains pure herbal extracts and oils that help people to more radiant, healthy skin.
How easy is it for you to source cruelty free ingredients for your products?
We're very fortunate that we live in a country that gave birth to The Vegan Society - the first of its kind on the planet, and the world-famous Leaping Bunny certification. Many customers, companies and ingredient suppliers are familiar with vegan and cruelty-free products. Sourcing ingredients takes time, as it's important to me that they are certified organic where possible, and that my suppliers have pro-active fair-labour practices and support for community projects. What takes quite a bit of time is getting confirmations that each and every single one of the ingredients I buy are in line with the requirements of each of the certifications and registrations that MuLondon holds: The Vegan Society, The Vegetarian Society, PETA, Green America, Viva! UK, BUAV, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and Human Company.
Are you owned by, or in partnership with, another company that does test on animals or sell non-vegan products?
No - MuLondon is a completely independent company, and this is also confirmed by MuLondon's BUAV registration.
Do you experiment with ingredients and create the products you sell? If so, out of interest, how long does it generally take to create, test and then be happy to launch a product?
Yes - I love being an alchemist and experimenting with different base oils, herbal extracts and precious essential oils. It's really magical to see them come together in unique combinations full of synergy. Creating a new product can take from 6 months to a year - it will usually start with an idea of what I'd like to develop and how I'd like to feel, perform and smell, followed by a lot of experimenting and perfecting the formula. All products are hand-made in London.
Tell me a bit about yourself before you launched MuLondon
I've worked in management, customer service and retail businesses both in Sweden - before I moved to the UK, and then in London. My love and passion for natural products was cemented by spending a few years on a biodynamic farm and cultural centre on the stunning coast of the Northern Sea in Sweden. It's been my dream for a very long time to start my own skincare line, so it was meant to be!
What is your vision for the future of MuLondon?
In just a few years since its inception, MuLondon has won some great awards - The Vegan Society Awards, The Mayor Of Lewisham's Environmental Award, FreeFrom Skincare Awards - and has fans in customers, beauty editors and bloggers and make-up artists around the world. It's great to connect to people who appreciate MuLondon's no-nonsense approach to skincare, ingredients and beauty. I'm incredibly excited about MuLondon's future, and I have big plans in mind. New products are coming later this year, together with other fab changes. Social media lovers can stay in touch via twitter, Facebook or Instagram!
