Vegan St. Lucia
Would our honeymoon in St. Lucia be something to smile about?
Suraj and I got married in December 2008, after which, we went to St. Lucia.
We had been following a vegan diet for a few months but it was our first time away outside of England.
We knew we'd be able something but we didn't know how well; so we took some savoury snacks with us. Our emergency food, if you like! We ended up having to force ourselves eat it to avoid wasting it! We got fed SO well, we didn't need any snacks at all!
The chefs at the restaurant made amazing vegan meals for us
The Head Chef, his team and the staff who served the food were so considerate and thorough. If we couldn't eat what was available to everyone else, they put a lot of thought and effort into making separate dishes for us. The presentation was never a let down. We had different dishes for every meal for all the days we stayed there! It was all inclusive and because we were so well looked after, we had 3 meals there every day. We didn't want to dine anywhere else! This amazing place is called Rendezvous.
What I took away from our first experience of travelling abroad after going vegan
This was my first ever trip abroad, after 'going vegan' and what a great start! I realised that I didn't need to worry about the diet I have chosen. I know that no matter what, I won't starve while travelling, so I shouldn't panic but I also need to allow myself to be open to the kind of experience we had here, otherwise I could miss out on them! :) Sheer indulgence! I experienced and felt that there are people who want to serve their customers well, and do so consistently. Even if I don't have a repeat of how we were looked after here, I know that nothing can be so bad that I will regret travelling whilst following a plant-based diet.
