Does following a plant-based lifestyle mean I can’t use face creams, moisturiser and make-up?
Most people use some sort of face cream, moisturiser or lip balm. The way I looked at all these things changed when I began to follow a plant-based lifestyle, as opposed, to focusing exclusively on diet.
I realised that many brands use bits and bobs from animals in a lot of these products. This begged the question, 'what do I do with the make-up I have already?' and 'what will I be able to buy in the future?'
It didn't take me long to decide to keep the make-up I had already. For me, it boiled down to, 'do I want to throw it away?' or continue using it until it is used up? Avoiding wastage is very important to me, so I went with the option to use it up. This wouldn't go down well with everyone and I know some people who have disposed of items containing animal derivatives and started afresh. You have to do what feels right for you.
What about future purchases?
My choices will be better than ever! :)
The number of companies selling vegan beauty products has grown heaps. Even better; most of them don’t test on animals either. I am reassured and excited, because I know that when I buy new products, my conscience will be lighter, I'll feel less yukky about the ingredients and animals won't have been harmed through testing.
There are companies, which sell products that are made from minerals and other natural resources and there are others which aren't 100% natural, but they do not cause harm to other beings and they’re environmentally friendly. Great isn't it?
