Recipe: simple and delicious lentils AKA Arad Ni Daal
Preparation time - 1.5 hours
Cooking time - 30 minutes

Ingredients for Arad Ni Daal
2 cups of split black gram
6 cups of water
2 tomatoes - diced
1 fresh chilli – finely chopped
1/2 of a teaspoon of mustard seeds
1/4 of a teaspoon of cumin seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
1/2 of a teaspoon of turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 handful of freshly chopped coriander
How to make Arad Ni Daal
soak the split black gram in a bowl for 30 minutes then cook them in the Instant Pot for 40 minutes using the multigrain setting
when the lentils finish cooking, start chopping the chilli and tomatoes while you’re waiting for the Instant Pot to be ready to open
put the pan on the hob and set the heat to medium
when it’s a bit hot, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida
when the seeds start popping, add the chilli
after a minute or less, add the tomatoes
add the salt and turmeric
open the Instant Pot and remove half of the water and keep aside
add all the lentils to the pan and stir
if you want the Daal to be thick, adding half of the water may be enough but if not, add some of the water that you kept aside
chop the coriander, add it to the pan and mix
heat for a few minutes, have a taste and amend if necessary
You can enjoy this Daal with rice, Naan, Rotli or even have it on its own.
