Plant Shift

love ♥ living ♥ vegan

Following a plant-based or vegan lifestyle, is about food, drink, clothes, shoes, body treatments, hair products and more.

It's a conscious decision to think, walk and possibly, talk a better lifestyle.

I support individuals who are thinking about making the shift, as well as, those who have already begun their plant-based journey.

Comfort food

In the mood for something warm and comforting?

Most of us have a specific food that we enjoy when the temperature changes, or when we're in need of a bit of TLC.

What sprang to mind for you? What's your favourite comfort food?

I have a couple of favourites and one of them is soup! As Winter approaches, I like a bit of soup. It somehow (temporarily) makes up for the fact that the cold is upon us.

Making dinner for someone who may or may not manage to come over

My brother-in-law and nephew were planning to come over one Sunday. However, whether they'd actually make it or not was up in the air. For this reason, we decided to make a dinner, which wouldn't be wasted if they couldn't come over. The freezer is great for that!

What we decided to make

Once we knew they were coming, we put the oven on. We'd need this to cook the pies and plaits. We prepared the vegetables, so we could steam when the pies were nearly ready and last but not least, Suraj made the gravy.

So the meal consisted of:-

  • Linda McCartney red onion & rosemary sausage plaits
  • Linda McCartney Deep Dish Country Pies
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Petit pois
  • Mash &
  • Gravy

The experience

Dinner was such a lovely experience!
We could all sense how satisfied and comforted we were.
We enjoyed the meal slowly, whilst chatting and entertaining my nephew.

My brother-in-law was the happiest of all, because this is his favourite meal! It's his comfort food.

He said, "If I'm ever coming over, and you don't know what to make; make this."

Cooking for non-vegans

Apart from feeling good that my brother-in-law ate well; I was chuffed because, he's not vegan. He's open to trying all sorts of foods and drinks, so there's no stress.

When I've cooked for those who are a bit closed to the idea of enjoying a vegan meal; I've found that when they tuck in, they forget what it is, they go with their senses and they end up enjoying it!
They usually forget that they began the meal with the thought they'd miss out on something, because it's vegan, and they end up saying something like 'I can't believe that was vegan.'

Vegan meals can be a delight for everyone. :)

Below you'll see photos of how we've enjoyed gravy, vegetables and Linda McCartney Deep Dish Country Pies a bit differently.
