MOOD Café in Watford
My hubby found out about MOOD Café in Watford a few months ago. We’ve since been three or four times and really enjoyed the experience!
The staff
During all but one visit, we were served by the lovely Yasmin. She’s friendly, helpful and playful. We also met the owners. They’re a lovely couple who really care about providing a range of affordable, tasty, vegan options.
Vegan options
Here are some of the meals we’ve enjoyed.
My favourites
Out of all the things I’ve tried, my favourites are:
The wrappers delight: Traditional middle-eastern flatbread, with mountains of crunchy lettuce, red cabbage, fresh carrot and our ground up burger patty, then finished with a smokey barbecue sauce, hummus, vegan mayo and salsa.
I don’t have a photo of this and although I like mock meat, I preferred it without it. The rest of the filling was so so delicious!
The cheeky curry: A mildly spiced red curry with marinated seitan strips and a medley of fresh vegetables: aubergine, baby sweetcorn, peppers, green beans and mangetout, all bathing in rich and creamy coconut milk, served with fragrant basmati rice
The spinach filo pastry which isn’t on their menu online, but it’s absolutely delicious!
Suraj’s favourite is the Wacky Maki Roll. He’s had it in one piece and the way shown in the photo above and he prefers the latter. You’ll see the description of it below.
Wacky Maki Roll: A complete nori seaweed sheet stuffed with sushi rice, seasoned tofu slices, fresh romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumber, avocado, a drizzle of vegan mayo and finished with a sweet teriyaki sauce, eaten like a wrap.
For your sweet tooth
MOOD has loads of sweet options. Here’s what I captured during one of our trips there.
Covid-19
When we’ve been to MOOD, we’ve been in the middle of a lockdown or restrictions had eased but everyone was being urged to be careful. We didn’t feel comfortable eating indoors, anywhere but at home. MOOD has outdoor seating and luckily for us, it wasn’t raining, so we sat outside and ate. At other times, we’ve eaten the food in the car.
Opening hours
Whenever we’ve checked their opening hours online, they’ve been updated and accurate. Another thing we’ve noticed is that they always seem to be busy. I love seeing that, but if you’re mega hungry, it’s worth knowing that you may have to wait ten minutes or so before your grub is served.
