Vegan deodorants reviewed
I'll be adding to this article, as-and-when, I buy and review new products - last updated in January 2023
Why I want to use cruelty-free AND vegan cosmetics
Our skin is the largest organ we have and what we put on it should matter! This thinking didn't sink in with me straight away!
After I began feeling uncomfortable about, putting something that caused others to suffer, on my skin; I started looking into alternatives.
I started buying a range of vegan products from different companies to figure out which ones I preferred.
I also explored what to do with the non-vegan makeup that I owned already. You can read about that here.
Why isn't cruelty-free enough?
Cruelty-free products have not been manufactured or developed by methods involving cruelty to animals.
Vegan products, however, do not contain animal products.
So cosmetics can be:-
cruelty-free and not vegan
vegan and not-cruelty-free
vegan and cruelty-free
I prefer to buy vegan deodorants which are also cruelty-free. Which of the above feels right for you?
Scence Natural Skincare
I was gifted this deodorant and I can’t tell you how much I love it.
So why do I like it so much? There are a bunch of reasons! :)
it smells fabulous (I have a thing for cosmetics that smell of roses)
it’s plastic-free
it’s recyclable
it’s vegan
applying it requires so effort
it doesn't crumble
after I’ve finished using it, my skin feels smooth, the deodorant is applied evenly and my clothes are free of any marks

Native Unearthed
A friend gave me this Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant Balm. It’s great!
There’s no real scent, which is fine by me. It’s easy to scoop out using very little pressure and it applies easily and absorbs quickly.
It doesn’t crumble so there’s no danger of making a mess. There are no issues with clothes being stained and although I may feel some moisture, I don’t notice any smells.

Schmidt’s
This deodorant smells lovely. There’s a small applicator in the jar, which I use to gather the amount I need. I press it between my fingers and rub it onto my skin. It is a little crumbly so I am careful not to drop it when using it.
It absorbs quickly and hasn’t stained my clothes. At times, I have felt moisture after a few hours and there has been a light musky smell, but it’s nothing that’s made me not want to use it again.
I ordered this from ECCO Verde who no longer sell this item, but you can still order it from a number of places.
I was surprised by the size of the tube but I completely understand why it doesn’t need to be any bigger!
A tiny amount is needed. It doesn’t look like it’ll be enough but when it’s rubbed into the skin, it ends up going really far! It’s a little sticky but it absorbs quickly and hasn’t stained my clothes. The biggest benefit of this is I haven’t needed to use anything for three days regardless of the number of showers I had since the first application of this deodorant.
I ordered it from The Gorgeous Shop but you can also buy it directly from nuud here.
It is vegan
I have tried the natural version of Fit Pit Deodorant and I can tell you that it’s one of the best deodorants I’ve used! It’s the application of it that I like the most. It doesn’t crumble, so I don’t feel the need to be careful or slow when using it.
Also, you only need a little and it does what it’s supposed to!
If you like variety, it is also available in Peppermint or Tea Tree and Orange. There is another option for those with sensitive skin too.

Herban Cowboy
I've used a number of roll on and spray deodorants in the past. Some have felt very wet (for a few minutes) after application, others felt soft and light, like talcum powder and others have felt rock hard.
This deodorant is seriously like no other! I have never thought of how soothing or smooth a deodorant feels when it's applied, but with Blossom, it feels both and it's gorgeous!
Upon close inspection, there may be a musky smell after a physically strenuous day, but there's no bromhidrosis i.e. BO.
