Scence Natural Skincare: natural, plastic-free, skincare for everyone!
In need of a new lip balm
I was looking for a new lip balm but this time, my search was going to be more precise. I wanted a vegan lip balm which was plastic-free. That’s how I found Scence Natural Skincare. I like variety, so I decided to select the ones that sounded interesting. My basket ended up having way too many in it! I managed to narrow it down to six! Anyway, the parcel arrived and I loved the first one I tried so I reached out to find out more about the company and here we are. Below, you’ll find out about the owners, why they created Scence Natural Skincare, what their vision is for it and more.
What does Scence Natural Skincare specialise in selling?
Scence Natural Skincare specialises in selling natural, plastic-free, vegan skincare that is kind to you and the planet.
Where is Scence Natural Skincare based?
We are based in an Eco-friendly solar-powered unit in the beautiful town of Falmouth in Cornwall.
Do you exclusively serve those who are local to you or can others who are further away access your products too? If so, how?
Our products are available to anyone, anywhere and you can get anything from our range through our website.
What inspired you to create a business that solely focuses on plant-based cosmetics?
We wanted our cosmetics to be inclusive and cruelty-free. This is something that has always been important to us on a personal level, so it was easy to apply these principles to our professional lives too.
How easy is it for you to source cruelty-free, plant-based ingredients for your products?
This aspect does take a great deal of research and continual auditing to ensure our suppliers are compliant with our principles. It is such a shame that these types of ingredients that are the best for you and the planet often come at premium prices. However, we try our best to keep prices competitive and would rather absorb the extra cost from our profits than compromise on our ingredients. We would rather have good, ethical, sustainable ingredients and be happy that our products are the best that they can be for everyone and the planet.
For someone who hasn’t purchased from you before and is indecisive about what to buy; is there a particularly popular item that you can name?
Our Natural deodorants are our best seller and are popular with people from all walks of life. We have a no-quibble returns policy too, so you can buy with confidence if it is something you are trying out for the first time.
Is Scence Natural Skincare owned by, or in partnership with, another company that tests on animals or sells non-vegan products?
We are a small family owned business and not in partnership with any other company.
Tell me a bit about yourself before you launched Scence Natural Skincare?
Mel and Krista are the founders and are also sisters. Both are working mums and had careers previous to launching Scence. Krista had a graphic design and fine art studio and Mel worked in hospitality and retail. They were both ready for a career change and decided to study a shared passion and qualified with ITEC in Complementary Therapies to include Anatomy and Physiology and Swedish Massage. Their studies continued in Natural skincare, aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage massage etc.
Scence was launched in 2018 as it became clear that they both loved creating blends and products for their clients. The hero product was the first deodorant they developed as they wanted to create a truly effective and natural deodorant plus develop plastic-free packaging.
What is your vision for the future of Scence Natural Skincare?
We are working hard right now to develop a plan for growth over 2023 and 2024 as we want to make the brand more available and visible to more people. Not just because we know our products are great value and quality but we want to make sustainable skincare more mainstream. Scence isn’t just for Vegans and we want to broaden our appeal to a wider audience.
