What to do if you're after a 'buttery' margarine...
“Vegans have to sacrifice so much! I couldn’t give up having a buttery spread on my toast.”
In case I was being too subtle, the above isn’t true at all. It’s another myth. There are a number of spreads available, which taste buttery, spread easily and melt in the same way that butter does.
I haven’t tried all of them, but you’ll love the following margarines if you want a buttery tasting spread.
Pure changed the recipe of this spread. It didn’t taste buttery before but they tweaked it, so it does now. I found that the olive spread didn’t melt as well but this may have changed too.
To my recollection, Vitalite has always tasted buttery.
Although the original version of Flora isn’t described as buttery, I think it is.
The Buttery version of Flora tastes more buttery than the original.
Myth-busting
So in terms of myth-busting, vegans can easily find and buy alternatives for spreads, cheese, yoghurt, cosmetics, cleaning products, clothes and more. We can also eat out without difficulty and many restaurants now offer a vegan dessert or two, which means that we can order a three-course meal!
